Rethinking P.A. Klier and D.A. Ahuja
Exhibition/book launch by Lukas Birk & Carmín Berchiolly/Myanmar Photo Archive
Philip Adolphe Klier and D.A. Ahuja were two of the most important image-makers from Myanmar’s early colonialera. They form an integral part of Myanmar’s visual heritage, and their reproductions have been used in many different forms, yet we know very little about their lives. These images were created by commercial photographers during the colonial period, and we must rethink the original historical context that influenced their production. The question we ask in this exhibition is: what do these images really tell us about life in Myanmar 100 years ago?
