Exhibition From February 19 to March 6 | Goethe Villa
Opening | 19 February 2020
By Mizumi & Zaw Ma Tar
Mizumi is a 14-year-old Lisu girl born with Down’s Syndrome (DS). In December 2011, after the ceasefire between government soldiers and the Kachin Independence Army broke down, she, along with more than 100,000 other people, had to flee the fighting with only what she could carry. Since then, she and her family have lived in an IDP camp on the outskirts of Bhamo. UNHCR and PhotoDoc are helping IDPs living with disabilities to produce photo stories about their lives. The amazing quality of Mizumi’s works is testimony to how visual story-telling can be at the same time a powerful language and a therapy. It is also a powerful tool for effective advocacy.
